Welcome to the first Seattle Conference of the National Association of Women Lawyers ("NAWL")! NAWL has provided leadership, a collective voice, and essential resources to advance women in the legal profession since 1899, and we’re delighted to help further its mission at a regional level with our local colleagues. We look forward to spending a day focused on what’s made some of the top lawyers of our region successful, how we can better support and contribute to each other, and what we each can do to make our profession more diverse and inclusive – not just for women, but for all groups who remain underrepresented at the top levels of the law. As a steadfast leader in diversity, acceptance, and inclusivity in the country on a wide-range of issues, it is only natural for Seattle to integrate these same ideals into the makeup of the legal profession.
We hope this conference will be the first of many NAWL programs in Seattle and the first in an ongoing discussion on how we maintain enthusiasm and commitment to ensure the people in the legal profession reflect our society. We know the success of these goals will depend on ensuring a broad spectrum of lawyers – from a variety of roles, levels, ages, and life experiences; women and men – come together. We not only encourage you to attend, but ask you to invite your friends and colleagues to do so as well. We look forward to an engaging and inspiring dialogue and ask you to come ready with questions and ideas, as well as your business cards. We hope you leave more excited about our profession, more inspired about ways to improve it, and with new connections to solidify our commitment to diversity in the legal profession.
Finally, we wish to thank all the people who have helped to pull this event together. From our sub-committee co-chairs and members, to our sponsors, to the outstanding staff and Board members at NAWL. We thank you.
Regards,
