In a legal landscape that can make it difficult to advance, we invite you to join us for this two-day program designed to give you the tools to: (1) position yourself to advance your career; (2) gain insight into the hottest topics in the law; (3) acquire knowledge and enhance your proficiency about the most talked about labor and employment matters; (4) take a deep dive into today’s regulatory and compliance issues; and (5) tap into technology, and embrace the changes that accompany this ever-evolving area of the law, and more.

At GCI 13, you will be asked to challenge yourself and consider what you need to do to feel prepared, powerful, and courageous. Through inspiring stories, substantive legal workshops, and GCI’s unique open exchange of ideas, GCI 13 will help you gain leadership skills, business acumen, and the power to say yes.

Senior corporate counsel of public, private, large and small companies, non-profits, government, and educational institutions. Scholarships are available for in-house attorneys who wish to attend, but may not be able to do so due to cost considerations. Registration is limited to in-house attorneys and sponsors.

Meeting the Challenge is a forum for law firms, corporations, government, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to share best practices, learn from thought-leaders, and forge meaningful and lasting connections necessary to meet NAWL's One-Third By 2020 Challenge. Issued in March 2016, the 2020 Challenge urges the legal profession to increase the representation of women to one-third of general counsels of Fortune 1000 companies, one-third of law school deans, one-third of entering partner equity classes, and one-third of entering law firm lateral hires and to increase by one-third the number of diverse female attorneys (including women of color and LBTQI attorneys) in every segment of the legal profession.

In addition to programming focused on what institutions can do to increase the number of women in leadership roles, Meeting the Challenge will feature sessions focused on overcoming unconscious bias and strategies for individuals to advance and flourish in their existing environments. NAWL will also unveil its 2017 Survey on the Promotion and Retention of Women in Law Firms administered by Professor Destiny Peery, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.

You're invited to attend the National Association of Women Lawyers’ 2017 Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon which will be held at the Grand Hyatt New York on Thursday, July 20. The Luncheon will draw over 900 attendees, including outside and in-house counsel, and attorneys from government, military, non-profits, and academia.

In addition to the Awards Luncheon celebrating leaders in our organization and profession, there will be comprehensive and rich programming relevant to women in all fields of legal practice. The morning and afternoon programming will feature candid conversations on diversity, overcoming challenges, and the importance of having a supportive network.

How can women lawyers succeed, help each other succeed and, more broadly, help to create a diverse and inclusive workforce? That’s what we’ll be gathering to discuss on Tuesday, May 9 at the National Association of Women Lawyers Seattle Conference, with a powerhouse of top lawyers and leaders - from law firms, in-house legal departments, non-profits, and the government. We’ll focus on the key issues and opportunities that face women in the legal profession today and how we can work together to overcome them.

We’ll hear from women in senior legal roles about what strategies helped them overcome professional and political challenges on their path to success and what they recommend for you to reach your full potential. We’ll focus on the changing paradigms of legal fee arrangements and how they, along with initiatives designed to enhance diversity in the workplace, such as ABA Resolution 113, create disruptive opportunities for change. For law firm lawyers, in particular, we’ll offer a session on business development, with lessons learned and best practices from three top lawyers in Seattle. In-house lawyers can learn about a topic that goes to the heart of working towards a diverse workplace – accessibility – and what in-house lawyers should know to ensure your company or organization is a leader on this issue.

Above all, we look to celebrate and connect the growing legal community of exceptional women lawyers in the Pacific Northwest. By connecting with each other and dedicating a day to thinking about how we can enhance our professional lives, we hope to lift each other and our profession.
