2020 Spring Meeting

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is complex and far-reaching.  Over the past several weeks, the NAWL Board and Staff have been focused on how best to continue the important work we do to provide leadership, a collective voice, and essential resources to advance women in the legal profession and advocate for equality of women under the law.  Early on, as concerns began to seriously escalate and restrictions began to emerge, we moved quickly to transform our Mid-Year Meeting into a virtual event.  We were very pleased with the success of that program overall, and we gained valuable experience and insights into how to continue to enhance virtual programming, both in the current environment and as an option for future programs.

Following Mid-Year, we were very hopeful that we could similarly shift our Spring Washington D.C. conference to a virtual event.  As we proceeded with planning, however, we encountered a perfect storm with the dramatic and sudden increase in the impact of COVID-19 to our communities, our workplaces and our lives.  Very quickly, it became clear that it would be extremely difficult to effectively deliver a conference to the level of quality that our members and our sponsors expect and deserve. For those reasons, the Executive Committee of the NAWL Board has decided to cancel the conference.

NAWL is grateful to the Spring Conference’s devoted and hard-working planning committee, and we continue to work with our outstanding volunteers on planning our future conferences.  The Spring Conference Committee has developed some excellent content that we are working to re-purpose to deliver in other ways.  We are also continuing to monitor the impact of COVID-19 to our upcoming conferences and working with our planning committees to develop virtual options.  As circumstances evolve if in-person conferences aren’t feasible, we’ll be prepared to shift to virtual.

We greatly appreciate your support of NAWL and are looking forward to connecting soon to learn more about how we can continue to work together to advance women lawyers. Please direct all questions to nawl@nawl.org.
