Security at NAWL's 2026 Annual Meeting

Before the Event

Due to event security requirements, all registrations must be completed by Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and no changes or substitutions can be made after this date.

When registering, you'll find a field where we ask that you enter your full legal name exactly as it appears on your government‑issued identification (driver's license, passport, etc.).

This field is required for a security screening by Supreme Court Special Agents ahead of the conference and an additional security verification at check‑in on Thursday, July 23. Complete this field accurately to help ensure we can confirm your identity smoothly and quickly onsite.

Email nawl@nawl.org if you need to adjust the name on your registration.

During the Event

You'll notice increased security measures on-site on Thursday, July 23, for the Lunch and Fireside Chat with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and Former U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar.

  • At check-in on Thursday, July 23, we will be checking your government-issued ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) to confirm it matches your name entered in the special field (referenced in the section above) during registration. Email nawl@nawl.org if you need to adjust the name on your registration.

  • Before entering the Hilton Chicago's Grand Ballroom for the session, all attendees will be screened by a magnetometer.

  • Bags will not be permitted in the Grand Ballroom during the session. All bags will need to be checked at the bag check in the Hilton Chicago's Lower Lobby. (According to the SCOTUS website, they allow bags smaller than 18" wide x 14" high x 8.5" deep--will this be the case for us?)

  • The following items are strictly prohibited inside the Grand Ballroom during the session: (also pulled from the SCOTUS website--not sure if it'll be the same)
  • Food or beverages of any kind, including unopened packaged food
  • Liquid, including water (Empty water bottles are permitted)
  • Aerosol containers and non-aerosol spray, mace, and pepper spray
  • Guns, replica guns, electric stun guns, ammunition, martial arts weapons or devices, and fireworks
  • Knives of any size and any pointed objects (Pens and pencils are permitted)
  • Razors and box cutters

Please note that the security team is authorized to determine if any other items may pose a potential safety hazard and to make exceptions if a prohibited item is determined to be necessary and required for medical or other special needs. (pulled from SCOTUS website too)
