During her more than 25 years in the legal field, Jan Kang has held positions in organizations focused on revolutionizing the industries they inhabit. From connectivity to climate to cybersecurity, Jan continues to immerse herself in industries where the risks are high and the rewards even higher.


Jan currently serves as VP, Legal & People Operations of Taara Connect, Inc., whose mission is extending the world’s connectivity with light. Prior GC roles include 3Degrees, Chronicle (Alphabet’s cybersecurity moonshot that was acquired by Google Cloud), and Makani, Alphabet’s energy kite company. In addition to serving as GC at Cupertino Electric and COO at Stairwell, Jan served on the Boards of those two companies. Prior to going in-house, Jan worked overseas in Seoul as a foreign legal consultant for the law firm of Shin and Kim and started her career with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton in Los Angeles.


Jan founded WGCN (the Women’s General Counsel Network) in 2009. WGCN now has over 2,000 members and is still growing. Jan also serves on the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific Fund.


Jan earned an undergraduate degree in philosophy from Stanford University and a law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law. She lives in San Carlos with her husband, their bernedoodle, Bleu Asia, and a combination of their 3 kids who may or may not be at home at any given time.
