A trusted advisor to both cutting-edge disrupters and global industry leaders, Sumedha Ahuja adopts a business-first approach and applies her technical, business, and legal experience to provide strategic and practical advice that aligns with the company’s business goals.

Sumedha guides clients on strategic patent portfolio management and patent prosecution, particularly involving computer software, internet, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) inventions.

Sumedha has hands-on engineering and scientific experience building AI/ML solutions and helps her clients secure their intellectual property in this field.  She also has extensive experience in other technology areas, including telecommunications; digital health; virtual, augmented and mixed realities; advertising and behavioral analysis; search and search result processing; fintech and blockchain; Internet of Things; cloud computing; and virtual computing.

In addition to procuring patents in these fields—both in the United States and internationally—Sumedha evaluates third-party patent portfolios; counsels clients on avoiding patent infringement; and mines client patent portfolios to identify assets for licensing/monetization, patent infringement counterclaims, and divestment. She has also represented both patent owners and petitioners before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in post-grant proceedings.

Prior to practicing law, Sumedha was a software engineer at Sapient Corp., where she designed, developed, and deployed software solutions for large enterprise clients. As a graduate student at McGill University, she was a member of both the Mobile Robotics Lab and the Reasoning and Learning Lab, where she focused her research on developing recommendation systems using various machine learning techniques.
