When asked to reflect on her proudest moments, Mary Richardson-Lowry wrote:
“As the first Black woman to serve as the City of Chicago’s Corporation Counsel, I lead the Department of Law, overseeing legal affairs across 20 practice areas and a workforce of 50% women attorneys, with 70% holding senior roles. Acting as the City’s top lawyer, I direct the team responsible for managing CPD’s federal consent decree, defending civil rights litigation, and safeguarding Chicago against federal overreach. My work includes negotiating a $90 million global settlement resolving hundreds of police misconduct cases and leading key infrastructure agreements, such as O'Hare’s Terminal Area Plan. In every role, I strive to empower women.”
