Member Testimonials

Heather Bell

Associate General Counsel, Intel Corporation

“I got involved with NAWL after attending the General Counsel Institute (GCI) shortly after I left my law firm to become in-house counsel. My first GCI experience was inspiring! I have been involved with NAWL ever since, and NAWL continues to provide networking, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.”

Tamela Merriweather

Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Northern Trust Corporation

“I first became involved with NAWL at the suggestion of a friend who thought its commitment to advancing women in the law and women’s rights under the law seemed very consistent with who I am. She was spot on. Through NAWL I’ve found the ability to have community with other women lawyers from all practices, locations, beliefs, and grounded in our common purpose of furthering women’s rights under the law and increasing our presence in the practice.”

Nikki Adame-Winningham

Climate & Sustainability Lead Counsel, Pfizer Inc.

“I was lucky enough to snag a seat at my firm’s Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon table years ago and after that, I was hooked! First the Annual Meeting, and then the General Counsel Institute (GCI), gave me the opportunity to feel part of something bigger, connect with incredible women attorneys throughout the country, and learn from the amazing NAWL staff. GCI in particular has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone – way outside my comfort zone – and take on leadership roles. Like my work, NAWL gives me the space to be me: a Latina attorney; I don’t have to leave behind any facet of myself.”

Lisa Atty

Partner, McGuireWoods LLP

“It’s definitely true that the more involved I become with NAWL, the more benefits I realize. The highlight of my membership has been meeting and working with other NAWL members and staff. I’ve learned from and been inspired by other members, who always bring insightful perspectives and strong voices to important topics. NAWL has not only given me the chance to strengthen ties to others in the legal profession and learn about relevant legal issues, but it has also helped me to remain motivated and connected in meaningful ways.”

Simone Wilson-Brito

Partner, McCarter & English, LLP

“NAWL is a great source of inspiration for me in my career. It is motivating to be around so many women who encounter the same issues and obstacles I do in the profession, but have found a way to shatter the glass ceiling and reach back to help others achieve the same. The women of NAWL lead by example and I am honored to be a part of an organization committed to supporting and advancing women in the legal profession.”

Alex Bodnar

Chief Legal & People Officer, ThirdLove

“The relationships I have developed through NAWL have been invaluable -- professionally and personally. They helped advance my career from associate to partner in BigLaw and then from partner to general counsel. Through NAWL I have developed a network of impressive, smart (and often hilarious) women lawyers and friends with whom I can kick around business challenges, from whom I am always learning, and on whom I know I can rely. NAWL makes a difference for women lawyers at every stage of their career, and I am a true believer in NAWL’s mission.”
